It has come to the attention of the Board that an error on page 5 of the 2008 annual returns for chiropractors and osteopaths, has caused some confusion

Question 11 inquires, “when was the last audit (calibrating or servicing) of your equipment by the EPA?” when in fact the calibration and servicing of x-ray apparatus is not undertaken by the EPA.

The Radiation Protection Division of the Environment Protection Authority conducts compliance testing of all diagnostic x-ray apparatus prior to registration being granted, and a condition of registration is that at least once in every calendar year, the apparatus shall be serviced, however the actual calibration and servicing is undertaken by independent service engineers, not the EPA.

Therefore practitioners should refrain from contacting the EPA to request certificates of accreditation.
