Under the Chiropractic and Osteopathy Practice Act the Board is required to monitor and ensure the professional competence and
fitness to practice of all registered practitioners to protect public safety. The Act requires the Board to prepare or endorse
guidelines on continuing chiropractic or osteopathy education for registered practitioners.
In December the Board adopted the Ongoing Competency Model which was circulated to the profession January 2009. Feedback from the
professions led to a revision of the model and a simplified version, renamed the
"Professional Development Guidelines
for Chiropractors and Osteopaths" ("PD Guidelines") was adopted in September 2009.
A copy of new
PD Guidelines has been
posted to all members of the professions on 1 October 2009 along with a
Notice to the Profession summarising the
professional development requirements for the 2009 annual return.
All chiropractors and osteopaths should ensure they have completed the minimum 12 hours of CPD activites during the registration
year commencing 1 January 2009 and have supporting documentation ready to submit with the 2009 annual return.
The 2009 Annual Return forms will be posted to all registrants in mid October 2009 and must be completed and returned to the Board
along with all supporting documentation by 30 November 2009.
