The Health & Community Services Complaints Act successfully passed through Parliament and was assented to on 8 July 2004.
Ms Leena Sudano has been appointed as South Australia's first H&CS Commissioner. Ms Sudano has worked in Australia and Britain as a nurse and midwife and held senior roles in such areas as health and public advocacy.
Work will now begin to establish the Commission, including setting up an office and staff, and it is expected that this will be complete by 1 July 2005.
